Bulgaria
To be honest with you, I had no idea that snow even existed in Bulgaria. I have always imagined that land as a year-long summer holiday without any mountians. I was wrong in case you were wondering.
We got there after a frustrating 36 hour long drive, turned out that our photographer Basti Gogl had forgotten his passport which made our planned shortcut through Serbia impossible. We had to take the lengthy detour through Romania, Transylvania included (we didn’t see any vampires since we were there at day time, they were all in their coffins).
The news had reported heavy snow and completely chaos in Bulgaria’s capitol, Sofia, so we saw a chance to get some filming done in a country not many crews goes to film.
By the time we got there, the snow had melted and Sofia wasn’t any more chaotic than usual.
Luckily Niko, our trusted local guide welcomed us smiling and helped us to check in on a great hostel thingy.
The next days we learned that Bulgaria might be a frickin’ awesome place to shred, but like the rest of the world, they need snow to make the magic happen. I guess we were as unlucky as one can get, right befpre and right after we left it snowed quite a lot. At least that’s what they told us, those bastards..
Well anyway, we got to ride some pretty damn cool spots in Sofia which was fun for me and Kalle that had knees that could handle some abuse, Jocki on the other hand had just recovered from surgery and realized that pushing it wasn’t the smartest thing to do.
On the way back we decided that we’re deffinitely not going through Romania again, even though Clement had a pretty cool idea to shoot some lifestyles of me walking out of the Bank of Transylvania (not sure if it was a blood bank or not). So we put Señor no-passport on a plane and drove back in less than 20 hours.
A big thanks to the guys in Bulgaria! Niko, Ivo, Alex, the Godfather, Seven Lakes, Bansko and all the rest of you guys.
