far east - Kamchatka

hi there! back in the blog world i guess, long time. Long time and maybe a bit too lazy time i have to say, takes me always a bit too much to keep this thing alive.... but i think that now, after the trip i´ve just done it totally deserves a few words. So here i go!. Back at the begining of this month, once again I was leaving Innsbruck, this time direction Russia. Meeting Cepten, Pirates filmer, in Munich and heading to Moscow was our first step. When in the next day we were going to fly to the Far East, Kamchatka, this peninsula situated at the very end of Russia, closer to Japan and Alaksa than anything else. since the begining things started good i´ll say, you know, new trip in some time, new place, new everything, and after a break i had before back home in Spain, i was pretty fresh to go for all that. So after a 10 hours flight, made it in Petropavlosk-Kamchatsky, capital of Kamchatka. Weather was not the best, a cold and grey day was waiting there for as, plus a big blue bus that was going to take us to our final destination, a "base" in the middle of nowhere, surrounded just by snow, trees, vulcanos in the distance, and, luckily, beers even more in the distance. That was going to be "home" for the next 21 days. Those first days were ok i´ll say, fuck! that jetlag the first night, bufff, i almost couldnt handle it! is not that im a big sleeper, depends.... but yeah, this thing was crazy, couldnt really stand awake anymore at the end, and that thing really takes you for a few days. so mainly we were all a bit too tired the first days, even though we were already out there, sledding, shoveling and trying to snowboard things that.... didnt really work too good..... After the jet lag was gone, almost a week later for some, we all had enough time to settle down in our new "home". Crew this time was Dimitry Fesenko, Osa, Emeric Front and Juuso Laivisto, plus me and Cepten as media guys. And things were going all good, beside up and downs that everybody has, and in places like this, well, you can see them a bit more i guess. In down days, which didnt really had many, you only can hang in the room, eat and do whatever shit in the computer. Bad thing was when so many times, for so many days, things didnt really seemed to work, i´ll say that everyday we did something, so we couldnt really blame ourselves for not getting the work done, but when it was not the landing, it was the inrun, or the snow in general, or the slednecks tracks all over the place, or.... one day..... a bear hanging out in the area of one of our spots. So we kind of thought to leave it calm, it would have been excited to check it out closer, but i think that spot didnt really had a good way out in case something happens. So after this period in which nothing seemed to work we finally had this session, which i guess putted us up a bit, with some of the guys getting some tricks. After that, was time for a break, and knowing that weather was not going to be good for a few days, we moved to the city. Was planned to check it out, go party and see what will happen, and i think you dont wanna know....... But it worked good as a distraction, a good one i guess, and i think too for us to feel more like seen the place, which was for sure good. In the meantime, doesnt matter in the city, in the base, in the snow or out of the snow, vodka is all over, and either you cheers in a birthday party in the city, or while shovelling a jump in a quite sunny day, not so good mix maybe...... After this time, was only around a week to go, and i have to say that was maybe the best one, found some good spots, snow was workinf a bit better i think, weather as changeable as always, and in the very last day, we did a sled trip to an active vulcano. Pretty cool thing. Had to drive with the sleds for around 3 hours, and after that had to hike a bit more to get insiede the vulcano. Cool experience, got to ride a bit, in suuuuuper sticky snow, and got even some action photos in there!. Ride back was cool too, i tried to keep Osa a bit easy on the driving, but sometimes didnt really worked... anyways, made it back all save. Next morning straight airport, same thing to check in, overweight.......... and luckily made into the plane! Landed in Moscow and got some nice days in the city, thanks to Dimi and Pasa for the time spended with us. Believe it or not, we went to the museums for 2 days, went to a tipical russian sauna, and ate some good food and drank some mojitos! Was a good long time. And from here, i wish you all that, a good long time in life, Enjoy and take care!! Carlos
