Winter again? Already?

Winter again? Already?

In certain ways I feel like winter just ended, so I'm having a hard time embracing all the signs of the cold coming back around. We had a funky summer in the Pacific Northwest and I kind of fell like I never really got a chance to warm up. I'm especially grumpy about it when my wetsuit isn't quite dry and I gotta pull that thing on in the early morning chill that September brings.

The truth is, Winter never really left Mt. Baker this year.  After being bombarded by 857 inches of snowfall over the course of the season, the summer roads that are frequented by tourists in RVs never melted out and people just kept skiing.  Now with NOAA issuing it's Winter trends forecast pointing towards a La Nina induced pattern, and a whole slew of snowboarding films being premiered, it's no wonder it feels like the switch to winter is being flipped a bit early.

Anyway, before I look towards next season too seriously, I wanted to take a look back to the end of last season, when Erik Botner and I took a trip to our friend Tommy's surf camp.  I have been meaning to share these photos for a bit but didn't get around to it.  If you ever find yourself in the arctic isles of Lofoten check out Unstad, it's a magical place.  Let's hope the start of this season will be as epic as the end of the last one!
